Greg Kempe is the co-founder and CTO of Laws. Africa, a non-profit organization that digitizes African legal information in support of the rule of law, access to justice and innovation. He was previously CTO of OpenUp, a South African civic technology non-profit. Before that, Greg spent six years with Amazon building their cloud computing platform EC2. Greg has an MSc in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia, Canada.

Commit Global's secret sauce is not their software expertise or their portfolio (despite both being excellent). Instead, it is the ability of the leadership team -- Bogdan, Dana and Olivia -- to focus their formidable volunteer capacity on a particular problem area, guide it through successful execution, and deliver impactful results. They have repeatedly demonstrated an ability to rapidly deliver simple technology solutions that solve real-world problems, most recently in the high-stress, high-stakes challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine. Of the many civic technology groups worldwide, I believe Code for Romania is one of the best-placed to explore the Commit Global concept and determine if impactful, sustainable re-use of civic technology projects worldwide is possible.
